Having Monday as a holiday has totally confused me! I swear, I have no idea what today is…not such a shocker since I feel like my mind has slowly lost it’s memory over the past 14 months! Anyway, we had a nice weekend here! On Saturday night we went over to our friends house and was able to catch up with him and his family. The Kaplans have been huge supporters of Jack and our whole family so it was great to spend some time with them. The boys loved it over there and pretty much made a huge mess of Brian and Jill’s very clean home, but they didn’t seem to mind! They have a pool out back and Jack took one of his first dips in the pool at their house and Braden took his on Saturday! Pretty sad that Braden is almost 16 months old and he has never been in a pool and we live in AZ! We obviously haven’t been around one since he was born, but our little Braden is going to be a water baby for sure! He loved it!! It was fun to watch him and see Jack run around like a crazy boy. We had a great time over there and I am sure we will continue to celebrate all of our sucess stories with them as the years go on.
Zac and I took the boys out yesterday morning to run some errands and then to lunch. It ended up being a pretty laid back day for the typical Memorial Day holiday, but it was nice. Next year will be a pool party for sure!
In about 54 hours, Jack’s broviac will be out!!! We can hardly wait. Jack has been taking off one ring at a time off his countdown calendar and is so excited it is coming out. He just wants to get wet and have some fun and not have to worry about his tubies being pulled. Friday will be an emotional day for sure. We are going to keep his tubes after they are pulled…some may find that odd, but what a story for him to look back on. Jack will be able to take them to show and tell someday! His friends in school might find it to be a bit different, but Jack will use it to show kids what has has gone through. What a tough cookie.
We have been reflecting over the past 14 months and finally settling down with all our family has gone through and we aren’t the only ones…Jack has started to ask a lot of questions not only about himself, but about some other kids who aren’t with us anymore. He is truly concerned about them and wants to know why all of this has happened. He wants to know “why the medicine has worked for him and not other kids.” It is a very hard question to answer in the first place, but it’s a really hard question to answer to a very smart 4 year old. He would know if he wasn’t being told the truth, so I have had to tell him honestly what I thought. After talking about it one day and realizing that there are others who are in heaven now, Jack said, “Well…we have to do something about this then.” He is so right and we will…
Here are a few pictures of our weekend at home and with the Kaplan’s…
He stole Jack’s hat in the car…a bit big, but he looks cute!!
